DOJ Charges Over 450 Defendants for Health Care Fraud

The Scales of Justice
The 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown involved cooperation between federal, state, and international officials.

The Department of Justice announced that charges have been brought against 455 defendants for allegedly participating in health care fraud and opioid abuse schemes. Federal, state, and international officials collaborated on the 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, which found more than $6.5 billion in false claims involving 90 doctors and other licensed medical professionals.

“This year’s National Health Care Fraud Takedown represents the greatest whole-of-government effort to combat health care fraud in our Nation’s history,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. He credited President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, and law enforcement partners in the collaborative effort to safeguard taxpayer dollars.

Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., said, “Some defendants allegedly ordered medically unnecessary tests. Others prescribed products that patients did not need. Some allegedly fueled opioid addiction to increase their own revenue. In certain cases, patients allegedly died, all believing they were receiving legitimate medical care from providers who only viewed them as billing opportunities.”
